He’s a great ambassador of the game of hockey.  He’s the highest scoring American born player of all time.  He’s got excellent hockey salad and was featured in the cinematic classic hockey movie Mighty Ducks.  He’s Mike Modano and he’s an american hockey legend!

Mike played 22 seasons in the NHL, 21 with the Dallas Stars.  The 6’3″ skilled left-hander holds 15 of the Stars’ primary records including most games played, most goals, most assists and most points.  He is a huge, maybe the, reason why hockey is growing in Texas and other southern parts of the US.

Tonight, the Dallas Stars will honor Modano and officially retire his No. 9.  So we did some digging and uncovered this gem video that features a story of Mike’s hockey quest from the time he decided to play hockey as a little boy to his dominant days in the National Hockey League.

We really enjoyed the part about Mike’s mother, Karen, who would make Mike and the neighborhood kids an outdoor rink in their Detroit, Michigan backyard.  She’d even play goalie sometimes using a garbage can lid to stop the pucks!

Enjoy!
