Hockey players are unique individuals.  We have our own style; our own quirky superstitions; we even have our own language and terms.  We take pride in being different than other athletes.  One thing that definitely separates us is our hockey hair (also known as flow, or salad).

There’s nothing like the feeling of cruising on the ice bucketless with your salad flowing through the cool air.  Many of us learned the art of sick flow from the hockey greats we grew up idolizing.  Guy Lafleur, Bobby Orr, Phil EspositoPaul CoffeyMike Modano, Joe SakicJaromir Jagr, Mario Lemieux & Wayne Gretzky all, at one time in their careers, had beautiful flowing hockey hair to accompany their amazing talent.   A new generation of NHL stars have embraced hockey flow and its wondrous powers – Michael Handzus, Scott HartnellPeter Mueller, George ParrosKris Letang, Ryan Smyth, Steven Stamkos & Patrick Kane.

We hope more and more salad will sprout from the teachings of the flow-forefathers.  Players should  respect and harness the power of the flow.  Something magical happens when your hair billows out beneath your hockey helmet.  It’s a message to the world that you are indeed a hockey player.  It’s the life you lead and the ideals you embrace.  As you continue to embark on your quest, take the opportunity to let grow out your salad and let it flow.  Who knows, you might be capable of producing something epic.

Last year we wrote a blog entry about the 2012 Minnesota All Hockey Hair Team.  The same gentleman responsible for that hilarity is at it again with his recently released 2013 All Hockey Hair Team video which can be found below.  Enjoy!
